Gaborone United have confirmed that they have agreed to two year contract extension with their coach Rodolfo Zapata. The Argentinian coach’s previous contract elapsed on the 31st May.
Zapata, who is currently on holiday in Argentina, when speaking exclusively to Killer Pass website, said he is pleased with the faith that Gaborone United Chairman Rapula Okaile and ‘City’ Senne have placed on him.
He lamented that they have discussed many important issues about Gaborone United, and both camps felt it was right to continue the partnership “because in order to perform a truly successful team we must be patient with the long term development of our players. It is harder to convince people to invest their money in something where they can not see immediate tangible rewards”, Zapata said.
He also said it’s vital to identify, recruit, develop and promote the youngsters in the team as they get frustrated from being left out on the sidelines. “We had good performances with a burgeoning youth set up to supplement our first team options in the coming years”, Rolo Zapata added.
Botswana giants team has this season been dominated by youngsters, and one that was out Tumisang Orebonye who scored 16 goals in the Premier League and earned a call up to the ‘Zebras’ national team.
The coach finished off by saying he is happy to help Botswana football to be part of the big five in Africa in the near future.
Gaborone United have secured themselves a spot in the lucrutive Mascom top 8 competition after despite numerous off the field problems regarding management and sponsorship issues.
