An influential pro-government group, the ?Untouchable? Group of Nima (UGN) has called on President John Dramani Mahama not to look elsewhere in nominating a ?new? National Security Coordinator, rather; he should retain Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey for his remarkable achievement.

The group also commended the President for retaining Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije as the Chief Executive for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for his numerous development and pro-poor projects in Accra.

In a press release signed by the President of the UGN, Issaka Amoani, the group noted that ?Ghana is fortunate to have a professional security expert in the person of Col Gbevlo-Lartey, and a renowned development oriented Mayor in the person of Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.??

According to them under the able direction of the National Security Coordinator, the government successfully handled the various conflicts in the country; cases in points are ?the Yendi conflict, the Bawku conflict, the Gbi Traditional Council and Zongo conflicts among others?

?Another remarkable achievement of the National Security Coordinator was the professionalism exhibited after the 2012 General Election in managing the security threats after the declaration of National Democratic Congress as the winner of the 2012 General Election,? the group added.

They also credited Col Gbavlo-Lartey of having the fortitude in collaborating with the Mahama-led administration in arresting drug traffickers operating both in Ghana and other Western countries.

In view of this, the UGN described as reckless calls by the opposition New Patriotic Party and their rainbow group, the Young Patriots for the removal of the National Security Coordinator over the arrest of the former security boss at the Kotoka International Airport, Solomon Adelaquaye in the United States for drug trafficking.

?Ghanians must cast their minds back to the arrest and prosecution of the former NPP MP for Nkoranza, Eric Amoateng in the United States? over drug trafficking. Did former President Kufuor and the NPP members of Parliament resign their post because it was one of their own?? they queried.

The UGN advised that unnecessary politicization of issues bordering on the country?s development must make way for real works to be done; and as such ?government officials like Col Gbevlo-Lartey? and Dr Okoe Vanderpuije must be supported to work.?

According to them, President Mahama is an assertive person; therefore the NPP and their appendage groups cannot dictate to him how he should run his government and how he should make his appointments.
