German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi to visit Germany, the Egyptian presidency confirmed Tuesday.
The invitation came in the course of a telephone call between the two leaders late on Monday.
During the call, Merkel and al-Sissi discussed regional developments, “particularly means of combating terrorism and confronting the proliferation of terrorist organizations and extremist groups,” the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
A government source in Berlin said the visit would take place after Egyptian parliamentary elections, which are expected to be held later this year.
