The Minister for Roads and Highways Hon. Inusah Fuseini, has stated unequivocally that in order to achieve a continuous growth in the economy, there is a need for a safe and?reliable?trunk road network in?the country.

This he said, would facilitate the movement of goods and persons throughout the country.
The Sector Minister was speaking at the 2nd Road Infrastructure Improvement Conference organized Core Construction Limited,Platinum Seal Limited, Ghana Institution of Engineers, Chemistry Department of the KNUST and Bureau of Roads Research Institute(BRRI).
He noted that, the government has embarked on numerous reconstructions, rehabilitation and maintenance of number of trunk, feeder and urban roads through the breath and length of the country in order to enhance the movement of goods and services.
“The improvement and availability of good road infrastructure promotes economic exchange, provides access to key economic inputs such as knowledge, resources, and technology; reduce the barriers to free movement of goods and individuals, and increases access to the market for goods and services”, the Sector Minister explained.
According to him, a number of strategic projects which provide linkages within the country are therefore being implemented to facilitate the overall movement of goods and persons .
“Such projects include Tema-Aflao, Takoradi-Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri-Asawinso, Atoms Junction-Elubo, Dodowa-Somanya-Akuse-Juapong as well as the various sections of the Eastern Corridor Road projects”, he noted.
He averred that, the completion of these roads would definitely go to add to the stock of good roads in the country’s network and also improve trade between Ghana and her neighboring countries.
The Chief Executive Officer of Core Construction Ltd, Mr. Frank Lartey, noted that focus of the conference is to deliberate on issues relating to investment in infrastructure. This he said, the conference will also discuss the use of bitumen additives which would modify bitumen properties and help improve on the overall performance of bitumen.
According to him, the approach has the potential of reducing the overall construction and maintenance cost during the serviceable life of the pavement.
This year’s second 2nd Road Infrastructure Improvement Conference was on theme: “Sustaining Road Infrastructure with Improved Bitumen Technology In Ghana”.
