The official launch of the maiden edition of Ghana Music Awards (GMA-USA), an event expected to honour and celebrate Ghanaian artistes excelling both in the country and beyond will take place at 915 NJ–73 MT Laurel Township, New Jersey in USA on Saturday, January 18.
According to the organisers, Don’s Music Production in collaboration with 2 Geez Entertainment USA, the award scheme has been instituted to celebrate Ghanaian music as well as pay tribute to influential and iconic artistes who are raising the flag of Ghana high.
Awards will be given in categories such as Highlife Song of the Year, Hiplife /Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Reggae Dancehall Artist of the Year, Raggae Dancehall Song of the Year, Contemporary Inspirational Song of the Year and Social Media Trending Artist.
The others are Gospel Song of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Video of the Year, Popular Song and Artiste of the Year among others.
The launch is expected to be attended by Industry players, government representatives, sponsors and celebrities from the Ghanaian and USA entertainment scene.
Powered by Highlife Radio in Virginia, GMA-USA is expected to be an evening of glitz and glamour. According to the organisers, it will also serve as a platform to foster a stronger bond between Ghanaian artistes and their contemporaries in the US for mutual benefits.
“GMA-USA nominees will be based on key fan interactions as reflected in mainstream and social media, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring.
Above all, a board comprising respected figures in the Ghanaian and United States music industry will serve as judges in selecting these nominees,” the organisers said.
