The death toll shot up to 32 since the outbreak started about a month ago in the Northern Region, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Region when they all recorded deaths after more than 140 reported cases.

Deputy Director of Public Health and Head of Surveillance Centre Ashanti region, Dr Asiedu Bekoe, at a press conference today, January 25, 2016 said various interventions are being put in place, including working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) to ameliorate the situation.
He said, MoH is orienting health officials, embarking on public education and making vaccines readily available for uninfected persons, in response to the disease. In addition, the Ministry has stocks of drugs to give to patients.
Dr Asiedu Bekoe indicated that Brong Ahafo region was the worst hit because health officials misdiagnosed the disease as malaria, adding that seven cases have been reported in some districts in the Ashanti region.
“Before you can say there is an outbreak, you need to have recorded 10 cases per 10,000 populations per week,” he explained.
