Benjamin-UwajumoguAs preparation for the 2015 general elections intensifies, a relevant political group in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state has perfected plans to galvanize support for the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, in his bid to represent Okigwe senatorial zone,Hon Acho Ihim, as well as the member representing Okigwe North Federal constituency, Hon. Matthew Omegara, in their effort to consolidate their purposeful representation of the constituency come 2015.

The group known as the Okigwe Good Governance support Group, through its Chairman, Mr. Humphrey Maduka, stated that the time has come for the people of Okigwe LGA to shun political machinations which he said was aimed at destabilizing the seeming success of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the zone, while retaining the zone to the pangs of under-development.

The group averred that their support for Hon. Omegara and Hon Acho Ihim, who will be ranking members if re-elected, was to ensure the continuity of good governance and to further shore-up the area with sensitive positions at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly and the State Assembly, which would accommodate the interest of the Okigwe Local Government people and guarantee the continued attraction of sensitive Federal Government presence for the betterment of the people.

It continued that Okigwe Local Government Area could not afford to risk, its chances of clinching one of the principal positions in 2015, due to the selfish and inordinate interests of some of their kinsmen, whom it said, had severally betrayed the area in the Political equation of the zone and the state.

According to the Chairman, ?There is no gain saying the fact that the seeming Political bastardization of Okigwe LGA by some persons who do not understand political calculations, must immediately be stopped by every politically conscious son and daughter of the area. 2015 is around the corner, and they are here again to deceive the people like they did in 2011, when out of their selfishness, and their penchant for anti-party activities, brazenly worked against Okigwe LGA and supported another candidate. Even as their plots failed, they further used the instrumentality of the election petition tribunal to distract Hon. Omegara?s chances of giving his constituents quality representation?, he explained.

The Chairman also cautioned those whom he described as Political jobbers in the Area, to stop further polarization of Okigwe LGA with the senatorial ambition of one of their own, as it was an obvious impossible agenda for the Okigwe LGA to produce a representative for the Okigwe North Federal constituency, as well as a Senator for the zone, adding that such attitude was a deliberate ploy by the selected persons to further shut out the area from the political equation in the zone which they attempted during the 2011 general elections in the area.

The support group, however, wondered the possibility of the senatorial ambition of one the persons, which according to them, was a difficult ware to sell, as the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has decided to lend a support to Hon. Omegara, with a view to clinching one of the principal positions at the Federal House of Representatives, as a high ranking lawmaker.

According to them, the implication of such endorsement was that, as Okigwe LGA rallies support for Hon. Omegara?s candidature, the LGA would also in turn support Ihitte ? Uboma LGA which has not represented Okigwe zone in the senate, thereby ensuring closer political ties between the two LGAs

It also called on Okigwe people to be wary of those it described as political opportunists, whose ultimate ambition was to balkanize the area politically with the sole aim of achieving their selfish interests to the detriment of the masses.
