Huawei Ethiopia on Monday kicked off training for Ethiopian academy instructors aiming to boost their information and communications technology (ICT) teaching skills.
The training, slated from July 18 to 29 in the capital city of Addis Ababa, is part of Huawei’s efforts to promote ICT in the East African country.
In order to bridge the talent gap and boost the ICT industry’s development, Huawei has teamed up with 44 Ethiopian universities to bridge the talent gap and close the distance between ICT theory and application, Huawei Ethiopia said in a statement issued in connection with the academy instructors’ training.
Huawei Ethiopia established ICT academies in the universities to provide access to the most recent ICT technologies and knowledge for students interested in joining and attending online and offline courses.
Attendees from nine public universities are taking part in this first round of training. At the end of the training, the trainees will be expected to certify and teach onsite at their universities, the company said.
The training focuses on datacom, security, storage, 5G, artificial intelligence, WLAN, LTE transmission, data center, big data, and other areas, the company said.
According to the company, in Ethiopia there are over 1,200 certified professionals and currently over 4,600 students are active and attending online and onsite classes.
During the recruitment, students who have received certification from the ICT academy are given an advantage, it said.
Huawei Ethiopia further said it will continue to bring innovative ICT solutions to Ethiopia, actively promote the development of the country’s ICT industry, and collaborate with local partners to create a more comprehensive ICT talent ecosystem.
In May this year, Huawei Ethiopia had held a forum that aimed at linking new university graduates into Ethiopia’s information and communications technology sector. Enditem
