The Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) is to transit from analogue broadcasting to digital broadcasting by June, the state?s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chinedu Offoh, has said.
Offoh said in Owerri on Wednesday that the state government had achieved 70 per cent of the work required to fully transit to digital broadcasting and was on course to beat the 2015 national and international deadline for transition.
He said that the present administration had invested a lot in providing state-of-the-art facilities at the corporation. ?I can say we are at about 70 per cent completion; we?ve built it up to 10 kilowatts, what that means is that we can be heard all over the southeast; we have affiliation with the Voice of America and that also came in handy.
“What we are waiting for is a few configuration in the building and hopefully, in a matter of months, we should go purely digital, I am looking at, at least by the middle of the year,?? he said.
Offoh also said that the state government was working on putting on ground solid structures that would guarantee the sustenance of the digitisation of IBC.
On the cost of the entire programme, the commissioner said that the state government had adopted a cost-effective strategy of transiting to digital broadcasting.
