The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAILA) came third in the think tank ranking for SSA category.

This is according to the latest report released by the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America (USA) on the performance of think tanks globally.
The Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (Rwanda), the African Institute for Applied Economics (Nigeria) and the Development Policy Research Unit (South Africa) were the last three in the SSA ranking.
On the global ranking, Brookings Institution in the US, out of 100 countries topped the chart while Chatham House in the United Kingdom and Bruegel in Belgium followed in that order.
The three best performing think tanks in Africa on the global ranking include the African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) in South Africa, Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies (ACPSS) in Egypt and the IMANI Center for Policy and Education (Ghana) obtained the following positions; 32, 65 and 68.
The Lauder Institute and its partners monitor and maintain the largest, most comprehensive database of over 6,500 think tanks globally.
Ghana has 37 policy think tanks and the performance of IMANI has consolidated its position as the most reliable and tenacious think tank whose activities have shaped policy and enhanced governance and development in the West African country.
Globally, IMANI has chalked some successes by ranking high in various areas. It is ranked the topmost education policy think tank in Africa.
IMANI is also the number one African think tank with the Most Innovative Policy Ideas/Proposals. In addition, IMANI leads the African think tanks to watch rankings, twelve of them out of 101 ranked globally.
