According to a statement by the Shin Bet, in 2007, he moved to to study in Egypt’s Cairo. In Egypt, he formed a group affiliated with the Holy Warriors Battalion, a radical Islamic organization, the Shin Bet said.

“Over the past years, the group carried out several attacks against Israeli targets, including firing rockets towards Israel and plotting terror within Israel,” the Shin Bet said.

The arrest came amidst a six-month-long of Palestinian unrest, including frequent stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming in Israel and the occupied West Bank. At least 170 Palestinians and 28 Israelis have been killed since October. Enditem
