?16,? a movie against homosexuality was premiered last Saturday at the college of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.
The movie tells the story of two teenagers, Opeibia, played by Barbara Psorakiss and Sulley Birga, known as Jay, who did not get along as kids but grew up to develop affection and had a crush on each other.
The film, which is a mixed bag of comedy and lessons for young adults, also wages a special campaign against homosexuality, which in Ghana, is believed to have its roots in the Senior High Schools
In the movie, Jay and Opeibia both 16 developed love for each other in an unstable friendship clouded in hatred and egocentrism. Carlos, another young man of the same age gets involved in homosexuality, a practice he picked up from his seniors in the high school.
Written and directed by Stella Barnes, ?16? emphasises the need to handle teenagers and young people in a manner that would help them to harness their energies and use them wisely and profitably.
Juliet Ibrahim and Eddie Waston combined the roles of responsible parenthood and the drudgery of mentoring their sons. Waston made the effort to get his son, Carlos to abandon the act of homosexuality.
The subject of the movie is the need for parents to give the right guidance and upbringing to their children to enable them to grow into responsible adults.
The main character in the movie, Barbara Psorakiss, who played Opeibia, showed that she has the talent to make it to the top.
As a child she participated in school talent shows, played the keyboard and wrote her own songs during her leisure time.
