Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday held talks in Nairobi with visiting president of the European Council Charles Michel where they agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a strategic dialogue.

Kenyatta and the EU leader, who discussed several matters of bilateral and multilateral interest to Kenya and the EU, agreed to foster a closer working relationship between Kenya and the EU on regional matters.

State House spokeswoman Kanze Dena-Mararo said in a statement issued after the meeting that the two leaders agreed to strengthen and scale up partnership between Africa, and Kenya’s private sector and the EU as part of efforts to increase investments, create employment and support post COVID-19 economic recovery.

Dena said the two leaders also resolved to accelerate the implementation of existing Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) following the historic agreement at the EAC summit last week. Enditem
