Kenyatta said in a statement issued in Nairobi Tuesday night that he has forwarded Njoroge’s name to Parliament for approval.
Njoroge, whose nomination is likely to be approved, will take over from Njuguna Ndung’u, who has been at the helm of the country’s top financial power and completed his second four-year term on March 4.
Njoroge was among the five candidates interviewed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the top job.
The president has also nominated Harun Sirima, current Deputy Governor, and Sheila M’Mbijiwe, a banker and former member of the apex bank’s top monetary policy organ, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), as deputies.
Mohamed Nyaoga, a seasoned lawyer who has held various positions within the government, has been named to the position of CBK board chairman.
The CBK is a key determinant of economic stability given its primary role in safeguarding the integrity of the financial system and stability of cost of goods and services.
The president has powers under the current law to appoint the chairman, governor, two deputy governors and eight other non- executive directors of CBK. Enditem
