President John Dramani Mahama has been called upon to follow the footsteps of former President Jerry John Rawlings, who respect the freedoms and liberties the people had to enjoy under his administration.
According to businessmen and women who use Aflao border as entry points, Mahama has to learn a lot from the administrative style of J. J Rawlings who during his tenure, ensure that those who took peoples? freedom for granted are punished.
Their call came after months of serious revelations about Hope Sodzinshie, an officer stationed at the Aflao border CEPS for intimidation, corruption and abuse of peoples? human rights.
According to them, they want the Government and the relevant authorities to tell the whole world, who put him (Hope Sodzinshie) there?
Although, Residents of Aflao and business men and women, who use the Aflao border as entry point for their business transactions, have made constant call for Hope Sodzinshie, an official of the service who have been in the news lately for abusing his position as an ?Imposter, to be sacked, nothing seems to have been done.
According to them, although Hope Sodzinshie is back into the service, they suspect his coming back was fraudulently done.
Speaking to some businessmen and women along the border in Aflao, they noted that government policy of fighting corruption is absolutely indefensible and that all must be done to investigate all the allegations leveled against Hope Sodzinshie.
However, records showed that Hope Sodzinshie has been dismissed from both the Military and the GRA-Customs Division Task Force for gross corruption but no record show of his re-instatement.
Interestingly, the relentless attack by Hope Sodzinshie on the business men and women population spurred the formation of vigilante groups by GRA and Customs division using him to destroy civil liberties.
?This is serious assault on the freedom that Ghanaians are enjoying,? a businessman said.
??History will judge Mahama-led government of their commitment to a just society and their willingness to face an ugly truth and say never again.?
Some legal experts in Aflao Ketu-South have expressed doubts that the evidences against Hope Sodzinshie are clear and strong enough to hold him responsible and get him removed from post.
According to the lawyers, the many publications that ware made about his conduct explains and exposed lots of things that were hitherto hidden from the government, and that now that government is made aware, steps must be taken to investigate him.
State institutions that have the mandate to investigate corruption in this country are somehow holding brief for Hope Sodzinshie since they have failed to hold him accountable for corruption and human rights abuse.
