A man is suing a women’s college in south-western Japan for refusing to accept his application, a news report said Monday.wpid-law.jpg

The rejection by Fukuoka Women’s University violated the rights of equality and right to education as stipulated in the constitution, Kyodo News agency quoted the 20-year-old man as saying.

His lawyer said it was the first lawsuit against a national or public university that questioned the institution’s legal basis, the report said.

The man, who wants to become a dietician, is said to be demanding 660,000 yen (5,630 dollars) in compensation from the university, the only one in the area to offer his chosen course.

There are four national or public women’s universities in Japan.
