Meet Bisa , your personal doctor. Bisa is a project started by Raindolf Owusu a Ghanaian based software developer who doubles as the founder of Oasis Websoft, a software development house. Bisa means ?ask? in the Ghanaian twi language. Based on our research we came to the understanding that most people did not like to visit hospital for check up for various reasons. People who had symptoms of sexually transmitted symptoms were scared to visit the doctors because of stigmatization that came after diagnosis and others preferred self medication instead of seeking advice for the health professional. From our research at Oasis we realized we could bridge the gap using modern technology like mobile application, SMS and USSD.
We went on to develop Bisa 1.0 which runs on any mobile device running Android operating system 2.3 ( Froyo ) and above. We have features like the photo upload feature that allows users to upload pictures of the areas they are concerned about. When a user downloads Bisa, he/she will have access to four tabs namely STD’s ,Ebola , Diabetes and General health updates. Our information comes from the World Health Organization and Medical News Today feeds.We also manage to bring two professionals on board as our health professionals who will respond to queries. They are as follows:
Dr Menson: Dr William Nii Ayitey Menson is a General Practitioner with the Ghana Health Service. He has worked in different parts of the country as a volunteer doctor. His major professional interests are Health-and-Tech, well as Health Policy and Management,where he hopes to use his experience to improve access to quality health for underserved populations. Described by his colleagues as a natural leader,he visualizes a future where healthcare is available to every hamlet,village,town and city in Ghana.
Dr Addo: Dr. Dennis is the founder and CEO of Claron Health International a Health and Wellness company that attends to the medical, occupational health and general healthcare needs of corporate companies in Ghana and West Africa using an integrated workplace health and wellness programs that focus on the overall health and well-being of employees and how this relates to productivity. Dr. Dennis has a multi-faceted experience gained from years of working in different disciplines and sectors in the field of Medicine. His areas of expertise include Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Public Health and Health policy. He is a Member of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeon and currently enrolled for a membership of the Royal college of Physicians in the UK.
Bisa is a mobile application that provides valuable health information, tips for managing your health, and support to those who seek information. Users can also ask health related questions. Bisa saves money and time. No need to go to a doctor since it can involve a lot of travel in our developing world.
