Sidikou was speaking in Bunia within Ituri province, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), where he had gone to meet with Ituri’s special commissioner Abdallah Pene Mbaka, provincial parliamentarians, provincial governor as well as civil society actors.

Sidikou assured local authorities of the availability of MONUSCO to contribute to neutralization of armed groups that are still active in this province.
During the meeting with local leadership, Pene Mbaka appealed for joint military operations between MONUSCO and the Congolese army against armed groups that are still active in the newly created province.
On his part, Sidikou reiterated MONUSCO’s support for the government’s efforts to tackle the problem. He further affirmed the availability of MONUSCO to support the demobilization process of militia groups that are willing to surrender. Enditem
