Namibia’s Electricity Control Board (ECB), Thursday announced that bulk electricity tariffs will remain unchanged for the 2020/21 period.
ECB Chief Executive, Foibe Namene in a statement said, while NamPower had applied for an effective bulk tariff increase of 3.9 percent, the regulator resolved that the average tariff would remain at 1.65 Namibia dollars (9 U.S. cents) per kilowatt-hour.
“The ECB is cognizant of the fact that the economy is affected by COVID-19 pandemic but is equally dependent on reliable and affordable electricity supply,” she said adding that it is the regulator’s role to ensure a sustainable electricity industry at affordable tariffs.
Furthermore, Namene said the ECB had considered several factors, including the impact of the tariffs on the Electricity Supply Industry, consumers, and the economy at large amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. Enditem
