
In the bid to maintain professional standard as the hall mark of the legal profession, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Tuesday inaugurated Chairmen and members of various disciplinary committee around the country.
President of the Nigeria Bar Association Okey Wali SAN who briefed the press shortly after the inauguration said that the present administration under his leadership is not comfortable with the level of discipline in the profession which informs the expansion of the disciplinary committee beyond what was earlier obtainable.
?Today after a careful comparative analysis and statistical comparison, this administration has decided to revert to the zonal disciplinary process with some additional committees with the singular aim of improving the disciplinary process by ensuring expeditious handling of petitions?. He stated.
Okey Wali (SAN) also warned that any earring lawyer must be brought to face dare consequences, stressing that the NBA have tried this time to add some bite to the existing structure. He said members of the public who find any lawyer involved in any form of professional misconduct should write a petition to the committee and appropriate actions would be taken.
The learned senior Advocate also said that ?corruption is the biggest problem in Nigeria. And the NBA is doing its best to tackle the issue of corruption in Nigeria. ?We have set up a commission to handle the NBA anti corruption commission.?
Similarly, the NBA President blamed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for its ineptitude in handling corruption cases. He said the anti-graft commission is not thorough in carrying out itsinvestigation, stressing that scientifically the investigators are not growing ?we are not their problems, they are their own problem? he said.
