He pledged to ensure that all pupils within the school going age were enrolled without any hindrance.

?The Assembly would pursue programs such as building of school infrastructure in communities to expand accessibility and reach to schools,? he said.

Dr Owusu-Acheampong said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua.

He said the Assembly together with other stakeholders would begin tracking all pupils who are supposed to be in school between particular hours since the current situation of shift system was facilitating truancy.

Dr Owusu-Acheampong said education was the bedrock of any meaningful development and therefore he would ensure that attention was given to that sector to improve upon the standards.

He said apart from ending the shift system through the provision of school infrastructure, the school feeding programme would also be expanded to remote communities to increase enrolment.

He said the supervision of teachers was also paramount in any strategy to improve education in the area adding that he would collaborate with the directorate of education to strengthen their supervision roles of teachers.

Dr Owusu-Acheampong, who is an educationist, emphasized the need for improved supervision of teachers to ensure that every teacher, irrespective of his duty station, performed according to the expected standard.

He said it was an irony that many private schools had no trained teachers yet they made better grades whiles public schools which had qualified and well trained teachers always performed badly.

He disclosed that the Local Government Act had a charter for assembly members to identify vulnerable persons in their electoral areas and register them free of charge under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

That, he said, would enable them have access to quality healthcare and gave an assurance for its enforcement for the benefit of the people.

He called for the support of all stakeholders in education, health and sanitation and all other areas of development so that together development in the area would be moved to an appreciable level.
