The Nigeria Football Association (NFA), on Thursday, fined FCT Queens of Abuja N50,000 for abandoning a match in the Women?s Premier League.
According to the football body, FCT Queens? case was one of seven cases which the disciplinary committee of the NFA decided on on Wednesday in Abuja.
Secretary to the NWFL, Danlami Alanana, said that FCT Queens walked out of the field after their opponents, Nasarawa Amazons, scored a goal in the seventh minute.
?They left the field on the basis that the goal scored was not a good one. So, the committee said they had no basis to abandon the match and the game was awarded to Nasarawa Amazons by three points, three goals and a fine of N50,000 against FCT Queens,? he said.
”The same situation goes for Sunshine Queens versus Pelican Stars, when the Sunshine Queens scored 2-0 and their opponents walked out of the field. Pelican Stars was also fined N50,000 and Sunshine Queens awarded the match with three points, three goals.?
Also decided was the case of Pelican Stars versus Nasarawa Amazons, with the Pelicans protesting that Nasarawa?s players had no licence.
Alanana said: ”The rule of the game is that on no account should a match be played without the players? licence but Nasarawa Amazons violated it. So, the match was awarded to Pelican Stars with three points, three goals.?
In another case, Inneh Queens protested against a player of Nasarawa Amazons, arguing that she wasn’t properly cleared.
”The committee looked at the case as that of double standard because the player has been with Nasarawa Amazons since last season. Besides, the player played for the team in the first leg of the game — which was not protested against then — so the match was sustained,? Alanana said
Another case was that of Bayelsa Queens and Standard Queens which had to be rescheduled.
?It has to be rescheduled because it was not played in the first instance; it was assumed that Standard Queens didn’t come for the match. When further investigated, it was revealed that they left their place but didn’t reach the venue of the match in time,” the secretary said.
The match between Nito Queens and Delta Queens was rescheduled because the match officials did not officiate. The committee resolved that match officials don’t have the right not to officiate a match, whether paid or not, so the match has been rescheduled.
The last case was between Rivers Angels and Tewo Queens, with the match awarded to Rivers Angels with three points and three goals
The secretary said: ”There was a rainfall during the match and the referee stopped it temporarily. But Tewo Queens refused to continue the match when the referee ordered the continuation after the rain stopped. So, the match was awarded to Rivers Angels.??
However, the secretary disclosed that the Week 18 matches, earlier scheduled to hold on August 11, had been postponed to August 18.
