The Western Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has held a float to commemorate this year’s NHIS Week Celebration in Takoradi on the theme, “NHIS: Using the Ghana Card for Expanding Access to Health Care”.
The float enabled staff of the Scheme to sensitize the residents on linking the NHIS card to the Ghana Card as well as membership renewal using the mobile platform by dialling the short code *929# and following the prompts.
They also created awareness on other operations of the Scheme and took through the principal streets of Sekondi-Takoradi, within the Central Business District (CBD), Fijai and ended at the NHIA Regional Office in Sekondi.
Mr Emmanuel Reinfred Okyere, Western Regional Director of the NHIA speaking in an interview with Newsghana said the Authority has rolled out home-based innovations such as NHIS and Ghana Cards linkage, mobile renewal and membership dashboard to give real-time updates of active membership.
He said, a waiver has been put on the one month waiting period and called on the public to go and renew and register for new cards.
However, he explained that, the registration is not free for the public except those within
the exempt category including pregnant women.
Ha said the Scheme’s Regional and District management teams will stepped up their efforts in registering staff of corporate institutions, community residents, religious bodies, children under the School Feeding Program, beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Eradication Program (LEAP) and Prison inmates among others.
“We will be in the communities within the various districts to register people from Monday to Sunday, while some designated churches would be hosting the registration team for mass registration exercise. And on Friday, our Moslem brothers at the mosques will have their turn”, he indicated.
He mentioned major activities as the NHIS and Ghana Cards linkage, a Documentary on the NHIS Journey, Private Health Insurance Schemes (PHIS) forum, roadshows, media engagements by Executive Management, Claims Processing Centres, Regional and District management teams.
Mr Okyere expressed the hope that the celebration would hype awareness creation, enrollment of new members, membership renewals, monitoring and support visits.
