Nigeria issues “hazardous” weather warning to pilots

Nigeria on Thursday issued a warning to all pilots and airline operators in the country about the "hazardous" weather during the harmattan period.

Capt. Muhtar Usman, chief executive of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had forecast moderate to severe outbreaks of dust in the country during the harmattan period from November 2015 to March 2016.

Usman said pilots and airline operators should ensure they obtain adequate departure, en-route and destination weather information from NIMET prior to their flight operations.

He added pilots should exercise maximum restraint when adverse weather was observed or forecast by NIMET. Enditem
