To Seek Post Graduate Qualification–Don

Labour Market Competition Forces Nigerians....

Prof.Sunday Oladeji, Provost, Post Graduate College, Obafemi  Awolowo University, on Sunday attributed the surge in post graduate studies enrolment in Nigeria to labour market variables.
Oladeji said in Ile?Ife that the high unemployment in the country was forcing many graduates to get post graduate degrees.
The provost also attributed the high quest for post graduate qualifications to the increasing need of graduates to have competitive edge over their mates in the labour market.
He said: “the labour market is so saturated now, and instead of waiting for a job that is not forthcoming many will enrol for further studies.
“Many graduates now consider the option of additional certificates for them to seek for job of higher grades.
“It has become expedient to give employers a reason to be attracted to you in terms of qualifications.“
Oladeji added that another factor that encouraged the acquisition of post graduate degrees recently was because most federal universities charged moderate fees.
“A post graduate degree will cost about N100,000 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, presently although we are considering a review of this amount,“ he said.
He said that post graduate candidates constituted 20 per cent of the students? population in the university.
He said that the university was planning to fully transform into a post graduate degree awarding institution.
