Information privy to Today as at press time yesterday indicates that the one hundred and twenty three (123) newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have resorted to boycott the official swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the very person the NPP claims to have benefited from the flawed elections results.
Deep throat sources hinted Today that the consensus was reached by the aggrieved members of the NPP on Monday December 17 2013 after a series of indoor meetings.
Information gathered by Today indicates that prior to agreement of the NPP MPS to boycott the event the leadership of the party also confirmed the decision to thousands of supporters of the party who hit the streets of the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi yesterday, in a demonstration dubbed ?March for Justice.?
The demonstration was in protest against the alleged discrimination against residents in the Ashanti region by the Electoral Commission of Ghana(EC) in the just ended general elections, and was aimed at getting the EC to effect changes in what the ?NPP deems to be discrepancies in results of some constituencies in the region.?
This paper gathers that the party is hell bent on boycotting the swearing-in ceremony to demonstrate their resolve in going to court to seek for redress.
Several attempts to get the Minority leader in Parliament Hon Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu to respond to the matter proved futile.
Today was told that Mr. Mensah-Bonsu was locked up in series of meetings with some NPP MPs on how to see their stance through.
