
The OPU is a non-governmental, non- religious organization, formed by like minds to foster unity among the Yoruba race and provide a platform for all Yoruba sons and daughters in the Diaspora to work for the common interest of Yoruba land.
The OPU seeks to strengthen the fabric of cohesion, unity and integration of all Yoruba people across Yoruba land.


According to the Acting coordinator, Mr. Kayode Siyanbola the coming together of Yoruba people at such forum will put a line to the controversial avowal made by some uninformed people like Sir Hugh Trevor-Roper who opined that ?the history of African is darkness and nothing but darkness?.
He stated that nothing could be further from the truth and it is clear that some people, despite their outstanding qualities, knew next to nothing about the rich history, heritage and culture of the Yoruba people.
The Convener of the Oodua Progressive Union Otunba (Dr.) Gani Adams in his speech said he has always thought about ways of mobilizing his people and descendants for the elevation of their culture values despite various shades of socio-cultural, economic and political group?s thoughts and opinions they belong.

He express excitement about the fact that the organization which began and grew from their shred thoughts is growing and has continued to blossom and has been established and registered in 58 countries across the world.
He added that, the mission of the organization is to create an enabling economically viable platform that promotes peace, unity and harmonious co-existence among all descendant of Oduduwa through the reawakening and strengthening of culture and filial ties that binds them together.
Otunba (Dr.) Gani Adams said the Oodua Progressive Union?s (OPU) aims and objectives include working for the political and economic liberation of all sons and daughters of Oodua throughout the world; creating fora where issues relating to the progress and unity of the Yoruba people irrespective can be discussed and realized; building in each country where the organization exist an Oodua House that would serve as the rallying point for their Yoruba people; offering assistance in any form to all Yoruba sons and daughters in their country for residence; and promoting and defending the rich cultural heritage as a basis of identity for Yoruba race in the Diaspora.
