Over 3 million facing food insecurity in Burkina Faso

Due to the food security situation, the government, through the Agriculture ministry, has made an appeal for 30 billion CFA Francs (52 million U.S. dollars) to address emergency needs.

The government had earlier announced that 15 provinces were facing food shortage, 10 provinces had a balanced food situation while 20 had produced surplus cereals.

The provisional production of other foodstuffs stood at 791,904 tons, an increase of 14 percent when compared to the 2014-2015 season.

Burkina Faso, a West African country with over 18 million people, has an economy that largely depends on agriculture, but the country is permanently exposed to food insecurity. Enditem
