A palm-wine tapper accused of defiling a 12-year girl at Trabuom in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District is to spend 14 years in prison as punishment for his crime.
Akwasi Kobi denied the offence but the court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu, found him guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli said the incident happened on July 16, at about 1630 hours.
The convict had lured the victim to an obscure place not far from the local Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, where he sexually assaulted her.
The prosecution said a witness in the case caught him right in the act, rushed to free the little girl and took her to the parents and informed them about her abuse.
A formal report was consequently made to the police and he was arrested.
