Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, has said efforts were being made to install communication gadgets in canoes to enable fishermen report the activities of pair trawlers to Naval Authorities at Takoradi and Tema.
The Regional Minister made this known when he addressed a durbar to mark the Annual Akwambo Festival of the chiefs and people of Apam.
He assured fishermen that government was doing its best to address challenges confronting them, and therefore appealed to them to adopt healthy fishing practices.
He advised parents to send their children to school to enable them become useful citizens in future.
Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, announced that the street numbering and naming exercise at Apam has been completed, and said the exercise would be extended to Gomoa Dawurampong, Pinanko, Osedzi and Gomoa Nduem.
Mrs Lordina Mahama, First Lady, who was the Special Guest, promised to offer five scholarships to needy but brilliant children from Apam, to enable them pursue their education to the university level.
The first Lady, who was represented at the function by the Minister of Tourism, presented 20 bags of rice, assorted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as cash of 5,000.00 Ghana Cedis, as her personal contribution towards the celebration of the festival.
The 2012 flag bearer of the Progressive People?s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom donated 1,000 Ghana Cedis.
