Basic Private Schools have appealed to the government to assist them by providing children in these schools with teaching and learning materials (TLMs) to aid them in their learning.
The Proprietor of John Taylor Memorial Academy of the Christian Divine Church Rev. Owusu Sarkodie and the head teacher of Wisdom Preparatory School Mr. Isaac Dadzie all in Agona Swedru who made the appealed said about twenty percent of children in private schools are there on the benevolence of the owners of these schools because their parents cannot afford to give them education.
They revealed that under such circumstance, the proprietors have to foot all the cost of education of such children, including tuition, feeding, school uniforms, books and other learning materials, a situation he said adds more burden to the schools huge financial cost in the day to day running of the school.
They however debunked the ascension held by some that private schools are for business purposes, stressing that they are rather there to augment government’s efforts of ensuring that every Ghanaian gets at least basic education by the year 2020.
According to them, this dream cannot be realized by the country if private schools do not join the trail, and said it is therefore incumbent on the government to at least lend some helping hand to private schools to support their effort.
The Proprietress of the school, Prophetess Cecilia Okyere however disclosed that her vision of establishing the school is to provide quality and accessible education to children in the area, some of whose parents could not afford to send them to school.
