A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosah, has re-ignited the rivalry between him and the founder and leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, describing the latter as a destroyer who came to disintegrate and destroy the Nkrumahist family.

Prof. Akosah renewed hostilities in Kumasi when he once again, launched the offensive attack on his bitter political foe, blaming him for all the troubles the CPP and the entire Nkurmahists had gone through.

“Who are PPP? I don’t want to talk about them; they were moles and traitors who came purposely to destroy the Nkrumahist family, but were not successful. They have never been genuine members of the CPP,” the hard-spoken CPP kingpin ranted.

Prof. Akosah, who never saw eye to eye with the former presidential candidate and now leader of the PPP, Dr. Nduom, observed in an interview with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye, host of the KESSBEN 93.3FM Morning show that “the dark days of the Nkrumahist family are over, and that the CPP is more united than ever to confront the upcoming December 2012 general elections.”

Prof. Akosah contested the flagbearership of the CPP in 2008, but lost to Dr. Nduom, and since then, the two political figures had not been in good terms until Dr. Nduom decided to quit and form his own party, the PPP, but the hostilities between them appear not to have cooled down.

When asked if efforts would be made to reconcile breakaway factions such as the Peoples National Convention (PNC) and the PPP, the failed CPP presidential hopeful replied, “what? What is PPP, my friend? Don’t tell me what you don’t know. The only Nkrumahist party, apart from the CPP, is PNC. As for the other one, they are destroyers. They came to destroy, but were not successful.”

He noted that the CPP, over the past decades, had been through turbulent times because of some people who claimed to be part of the party, but whose real agenda was to create divisions and break the party apart.

“But, now that they are no more, I can envisage a strong and vibrant CPP, ready to take Ghana by storm,” he noted.

Prof. Akosah’s assertion comes at the heels of the CPP’s successful presidential congress held over the weekend, during which Dr. Abu Sakara Foster, former running mate of the party in the 2008, was elected to lead the CPP for the December 7 elections.

He expressed optimism that the unification talks between the CPP and People’s National Convention (PNC) would materialise, stressing that the successful merger would enhance the electoral fortunes of the Nkrumahist family, and catapult them to victory in the elections.

According to him, the vision of the elected flagbearer, coupled with the ideologies of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, are what was required by Ghanaians to bring the country onto the path of development and prosperity.
