The House of Representatives, on Thursday, ordered the management of Dana Air to immediately pay 30% of the compensation sum due to families of the 153 passengers killed when its aircraft crashed earlier this month in Lagos.

The House also gave Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) up till Friday to present certain documents vital to the probe of the crash of the Capital Market ?or be liable for contempt of the legislature.?

In a resolution passed on a motion sponsored by Yakub Abiodun, the lawmakers gave Dana until Tuesday July 3, 2012 to comply.

Abiodun, in his lead debate, drew his colleagues? attention to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act, that held that 30% of due compensation be paid to families of airborne crash victims within 30 days, pending the outcome of investigations.

He further quoted the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air (Montreal Convention) as adopted by member states of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), in 1999, which ruled Special Drawing Rights (SDR) for victims of air crash, which current value is put at about $171,000 per passenger.
