Mr Daniel Enyan, the Abusuapayin of Aklika made this known at Aklika in the Western Region, said the only canoe that conveys passengers including teachers and pupils has become a death trap therefore the only option is to close down the school until the problem is resolved.
Mr Enyan appealed to the government to construct a foot bridge on the Bonsa River to ease the crisis commuters go through during the raining season.
He made the appeal when Mrs Christina Kobinah, Municipal Chief Executive presented a canoe and eight life jackets worth GH¢10,000 to the community.
He said the annual problem needs to be solved as soon as possible to help teachers complete their syllabus for each term.
Mrs Kobinah assured the residents of Aklika that the assembly has plans to construct a foot bridge over the river.
She entreated opinion leaders in the various communities to channel complaints to their unit committee members for onward submission to the municipal assembly for redress.
