On the parade were schools from five basic schools and seven senior high schools selected from the Accra Metropolis.

The schools included; Alzakiye Islamic Basic School, Garrison Junior High School, Accra High School, Accra Girls Senior High School, Wesley Graham Senior High School and Talents Restoration Senior High School.
The colourful ceremony, which was attended by people from all walks of life, saw the school children in a well rehearsed march past to entertain the large crowds gathered to observe the Day.
In an interview with the GNA, some of the students expressed their joy in partaking in the marching ceremony and pledged to contribute their quota to the development of the nation.
An observer at the ceremony also called for peace and tranquility in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, saying “Ghana is the beacon of hope for Africa and our 59th Anniversary must unite us”.
The side attraction for the programme was a cultural display by traditional dance groups from the Central Region and the Kimbu Drum Appellation Cultural Display; the children of the Saint Kizito Primary School at Nima also used the occasion to display taekwando skills.
