President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his utter shock on receiving the news of the death of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Pius Ewherido.
Senator Ewherido, 50, died Sunday evening.
According to information reaching Daily Times, the late senator reportedly collapsed on Friday at his home in Abuja and has since been at the National Hospital, Abuja.
It was said he was meant to be stabilised before being flown to Germany for further medical treatment.
It was while plans to fly him to Germany were underway that he died in hospital Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan has expressed shock and sadness at the news of the passing away of the Senator.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati indicated that the President, on behalf of himself and all members of the executive arm of the Federal Government, extended their heartfelt condolences to Ewherido?s family, the Senate President, Senator David Mark and all of the late Senator?s colleagues in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
The statement added: “President Jonathan prays that God Almighty will comfort Senator Ewherido?s family, relatives, colleagues in the National Assembly and all the people of his constituency.
“He further prays that God will, in His infinite mercies, grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss of the very promising politician at the relatively youthful age of 50.”
