Shai-Osudoku District is one of the most endowed districts in the Greater Accra region but it is one of the least developed. Indeed when the current DCE came into office most of us including himself thought that was the end of our woes.
Little did we know that the man did not have what it took to advance the interests of our district despite his criticism of every DCE that came before him. Why are we where we are
today? I shall advance two answers. The rest are very well known to all who live the District.
1. The DCE does not take advice from anybody. As a matter of fact the Executive Committee of the Assembly have on numerous occasions made recommendations that would have assisted him to develop the District but he would not listen. If you doubt this just request for minutes of the Executive Committee meetings and the General Assembly for the past few years. Even he would not take expert advice from his Coordinating Directors. Anyone of these directors who disagreed with him was sent away on transfer.
2. He has demonstrated open bias, ethnocentrism and outright hatred for certain tribes and people in the district. And because of these attitudes he has always tried to exert his influence in selectingmembers of his party into positions like government appointees and parliamentary candidates. For example he single handedly selected the current MP. You and I thought something good was going to come out of it. We all saw how he maltreated Hon. David and things which we would have benefited from him never came our way. At that time he remained adamant that we must keep a balance in elected positions between the two traditional areas—hence the birth of the convention which because it suites them Kpessa and his group have kicked against. But how do we have the MP coming from only one traditional area for 16 years — Hon. Assumeng is from Osudoku and has served in parliament three
consecutive times (12 yrs). If Kpessa, who also comes from the same area gets the nod He will continue the Osudoku dominance in occupying the M.P. position. He (DCE) has virtually blocked all investors to the district. For example, the investors who came to develop the Dodowa market. Now he has brought someone they are calling Kpessa-Whyte relatively unknown in the district particularly the Shai area, yet he wants him to win by hook or by crook. So what is he doing to make his candidate win…..sharing items like cloths and provisions. Money is being shared in the communities through agents like party branch
chairmen. It is being alleged that the constituency chairman is also sharing money on behalf of Kpessa-Whyte. This has taken place in the Shai Hills area, Odumse, Fiankonya and Sota. It is also alleged that DCE has opened a gravel pit near Adumanya-Dodowa, proceeds from which are being used to finance the Kpessa campaign. Be warned that a vote for Kpessa is a vote for DCE who has proved he does not have the competence to develop this district.
