Sir Celestine Omehia

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in?Rivers State, has said with the judgment of the Supreme Court,?Governor Rotimi Amaechi did not defeat the party but the defendant and?former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand?(APGA) in the state, Sir Celestine?Omehia.

The apex court judgment?on Friday?nullified Omehia quest to be added in a suit seeking to interpret the?expiration of Amaechi’s tenure as governor, came barely 24 hours after?the former governor defected to the PDP.

But, the PDP, in a statement issued in?Port Harcourt?on Saturday, said it was?wrong for officials of the state?government to attribute the judgment of Supreme Court to a defeat of
the party, when it was clear that the PDP was not a party in the suit.

The statement, which was signed by?Jerry Needam, special adviser on media to the state chairman of PDP,?reads in part; “The attention of the Rivers State chapter of the?Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to statements credited?to officials of the Rivers State government, that Rotimi Amaechi?defeated the PDP in the Supreme Court judgment on Friday, February 7, 2014.

“The PDP wishes to state that the matter was between the former?governor , Sir Celestine Omehia and Governor Rotimi Amaechi. That the?PDP was not at any time a party in the matter and could not have been?defeated by Governor Rotimi?Amaechi, as erroneously peddled by?confused agents of Rotimi Amaechi who are bereft of ideas.

“That the PDP is aware that the matter?of tenure reduction against Governor?Rotimi Amaechi is still pending at the?Court of Appeal, Abuja, therefore, it is?not yet hurrah as they are making?unsuspecting and gullible Rivers people to believe.

“The PDP’s case against Governor Rotimi Amaechi remains,?misappropriation of the resources of Rivers State, disrespect for the?rule of law, disrespect for our?traditional and religious leaders,?disrespect for President GoodLuck?Jonathan and Wife, Dame Dr Patience?Jonathan, the collapse of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the?Judiciary and the total break down of governance in Rivers State.

“The PDP has a very strong case against Governor Rotimi Amaechi and?Rivers people can not trust him to midwife his successor.

The PDP urges Rivers people to remain calm and law abiding, as he who?laughs last, laughs best.”
