A Toyota Corolla car with registration number AE 1465-13 somersaulted at the forecourt of Merchant Bank at Ridge in Kumasi.
The horrendous incident occurred on Tuesday around 10:30pm in the quiet neighbourhood, and it attracted a large crowd to the scene.
The driver in charge of the Toyota car reportedly refused an order to stop at a police barrier in front of the Golden Tulip Kumasi City Hotel.
Eye witnesses said the car veered off the road, hit a big rock and somersaulted rapidly.
Fortunately, the male driver and a female in the passenger?s seat survived the accident.
The driver and the female passenger left the location on foot minutes after the crash.
When the police moved to the scene, the car was damaged extensively, but the driver and the female were nowhere to be found.
Most of the people that rushed to the scene thought the driver and the lady snatched the car from its owner.
Others said the driver and the lady fled from the scene because they were afraid of being arrested by the police at the check point.
The police discovered blood stains in the car, an indication that two sustained injuries.
