The Tema West Municipal Assembly will launch “Municipal Operation Clean Your Frontage,” campaign on February 1, 2022, which is an initiative championed across the Greater Accra Region by Mr Henry Quartey the Regional Minister.
“By next year February, all households would have to start the operation clean your frontage, therefore I am using this opportunity to educate them before it starts,” Ms Anna Adukwei Addo, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency during a clean-up exercise on Saturday.
She noted that the operation clean your frontage was a by-law therefore anyone found guilty could be arrested, prosecuted and if found guilty could be jailed for a minimum of 12 months.
She urged the people to adhere to the initiative and not to wait for authorities to come around before they clean their environments and homes.
Ms Addo noted that as part of the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” initiative the Tema West Municipal Assembly has mobilised residents to undertake the major clean-up of markets, drains, and lorry stations within the municipality.
Assembly members, community leaders, joined by some residents together with Ms Addo, spent hours to clean the community.
Ms Addo explained that the assembly members decided to embark on the exercise to reinvigorate communal spirit among the people.
She said that, as part of the Municipal Assembly’s duty to resolve sanitation problem within the Tema West enclave, a Task Force which included Assembly members would periodically inspect facilities and homes in all the 11 electoral areas to ensure that “we all keep our environment clean”.
She said that, as part of the initiative, the Task Force would educate the residents during the inspection period to ensure that the issues of environmental health were rekindled.
