The Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly, has summoned two officials; former Deputy Coordinating Director and former Engineer of the assembly to answer charges on overpayment, payment for no work done and failure to render accounts.
The assembly members say they are prepared to forgo their sitting allowances if an emergency meeting is organised to get Mr Thomas Okra, the Deputy Coordinating Director and Mr David Ofori, the Engineer to explain some inconsistencies in their dealings with the assembly.
Mrs Jennifer Mensah, Executive Member of the assembly told Ghana News Agency on Tuesday that Mr Okra failed to reconcile income and expenditure on the assembly?s vehicles entrusted to his care.
She said Mr Okra had told the assembly in a general meeting that the vehicles began generating income in June 2013 but expenditure on maintenance started in January 2013.0
Mrs Mensah claimed that Mr Okra said the assembly owes him GH?12,000 after rendering accounts.
She alleged that Mr Ofori supervised the payment of three-unit classroom block expected to have KVIP attached, but full payment had been made to the said contractor although the toilet facility has not been built.
The assembly had also questioned monies allocated to a 10- kilometre feeder road contract although only the 2.5- kilometre Worasu-Sekuruwa road was mentioned.
She said attempts to get the two officials to answer these charges and others at the Executive Committee level had failed, as they have refused to appear.
Mrs Mensah observed that there appeared to be no proper supervision and monitoring culminating in indiscipline, inefficiencies and wanton dissipation of local resources.
Most of the assembly?s vehicles have been grounded; with some lacking batteries, hence the need to rent the accessories before operating them.
The assembly cannot generate GH?2,000 a week.
Mr Mohammed Kojo Abuaso, Municipal Chief Executive said he is taking action to reverse the inefficiencies and restore discipline at the assembly.
?I have already met the staff on the need to refrain from absenteeism and lateness, and direct all energies towards higher productivity.
?I am trying to put things in place, I have to overhaul all the machines, but now my main aim is to remove heaped refuse dumps engulfing the municipality for years,? he said.
Mr Abuaso said removal of the refuse dumps has been given on contract to be executed on credit basis.
