The footballer is being recognised for his achievements in football and philanthropy

Kanu-Nwankwo-Lion-HeartThe University of Jos has disclosed plans to award Ex-Nigerian international and Super Eagles Captain, Kanu Nwankwo, a Master of Arts Degree (honorary) for his achievements in football and philanthropy.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Hayward Mafuyai, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing. He said the event is slated to take place on May 12.

According to him, the institution’s Senate had unanimously agreed to confer the honorary degree on the Portsmouth player, whom he described as a deserving Nigerian and the most decorated African footballer.

”This is in recognition not only of his outstanding achievements in the field of sports, but also his exemplary contribution towards the rehabilitation of many indigent Nigerian children with debilitating heart conditions through his Kanu Heart Foundation. This has enabled many of them to recover and return to pursue their education,” Mafuyai said.

The Vice Chancellor added that the institution had turned its attention on the youths because they were not getting enough recognition.

“We have not done enough to honour our own young men and women,” he said.
