The Upper West Regional branch of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), will soon benefit from an ultra-modern Office Complex, after several years of operating on a private premise in Wa.
Dr. Yaw Baah, Deputy Secretary-General of the TUC announced this during a meeting in Wa on Wednesday, to formally welcome the in-coming Upper West Regional Secretary of the Union, Mr. George Kofi Mude.
He said budget allocation to that effect has already been made available, and that work on the project would commence soon, adding that the Upper East and Northern Regions were also under consideration.
Dr. Baah also took the opportunity to talk to members on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), some changes in the Pension Scheme, and issues regarding the 12 Labour Unions that are currently in court.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the TUC, advised members to change their attitude toward work, since the second phase of the SSSS would be based on work performance.
He called for unity and collaboration among members and their new secretary, to enable him to give of his best, for the progress of the union in the region.
On the energy crisis, Dr. Baah said the union would spend some time and reason with the government for the mean time, to work around to fix the problem.
Dr. Baah asked for the collective efforts of members to fight for the best interest of Ghanaian workers, and leave out personal political interests, since the union was 70 years and older than any political party in the country.
Mr. Mude asked for members’ support and commitment for the smooth-running of the union, in order to restore union spirit to members.
