As part of her prize for winning the Vlisco Women?s Month 2014 competition and becoming the brand ambassador, Mrs Eugenia Tachie-Menson was awarded an exclusive 3-day trip to the Netherlands along with the other Vlisco ambassadors across Africa. The trip included specially planned activities, along with a visit to the Vlisco factory in Helmond.

Here, Eugenia tells us about the trip and her experience to date:

How has the first few months as the Vlisco Ambassador for Ghana been for you?

It?s been a whirlwind of meetings and official engagements plus the trip to the Netherlands!  The rest of the year will see me engaged in events planned by myself and Vlisco, which I am very excited about! I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey to becoming Ghana?s Vlisco Ambassador for 2014; especially The Spelling Bee children, who believed in me.  I know there was no way I would have attained this height without them?long live the children of Ghana and long live Vlisco!

What was it like seeing how the Vlisco fabrics are made?

My first experience of how such fabrics are made started right here in Ghana at the GTP factory.  It felt as though I had walked into a beehive, buzzing with so many people and activities.  So the Vlisco factory in Helmond, Holland was a much bigger ?beehive? I found myself in.  I found out that the numerous processes that the cloths go through, including adding and separating colours (my favourite part!) to the final point are all very necessary to ensure that the Vlisco quality is guaranteed. I now have a better appreciation for the Vlisco cloths that adorn my back!

What did it tell you about the brand?

That attention to detail is a hallmark of all Vlisco?s brands, as well as creativity.

What was it like meeting the other Vlisco Ambassadors?

It was refreshing to meet my fellow Ambassadors from neighboring countries.  We instantly struck a bond only Africans know how to!  Our bond is so strong that all 6 Ambassadors have committed to travel to each other?s country to support their Vlisco charity project within the year.

Overall, what was the highlight of your trip?

There were too many to list just one, but I think the one that did it for me was learning about Vlisco?s forthcoming anti-counterfeit campaign.  The finesse and detail with which it will be done is a strategy I believe any brand or business should adopt.
