A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics revealed significant voter concerns in the Greater Accra Region following Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s (NAPO) selection as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming elections.

The poll, conducted after NAPO’s nomination, reveals a significant decline in support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) across six major constituencies: Tema Central, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wuogon, and Ledzokuku. This decline underscores the gravity of the situation.

The survey indicates that 42% of NPP voters in these constituencies are now less likely to vote for the party due to NAPO’s candidacy. Conversely, despite concerns, 49% of NPP voters remain committed to supporting the party.

Among floating voters—crucial in determining election outcomes—74% stated they are now less inclined to vote for the NPP because of NAPO’s nomination. Only 9% of floating voters indicated they would still consider voting for the party.

Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, discussed the poll’s implications on Channel One TV’s ‘Situation Room,’ highlighting the need for the NPP to address voter apprehensions. He stressed that this is crucial for the party to maintain its electoral competitiveness.

This poll underscores the critical role of candidate selection and voter perception in shaping electoral outcomes, particularly in closely contested regions like Greater Accra.

The findings indicate a significant shift in voter sentiment following NAPO’s nomination, underscoring the importance of the NPP’s adaptability and responsiveness. Strategic adjustments are now necessary for the party to regain voter confidence ahead of the elections.
