We Must Support RCCs And Assemblies To Deliver

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, has called for stronger support for the regional coordinating council (RCC) and the district assemblies to bring development to the people.

He said it was important for all – professional groupings and individuals, to accept to work together with the council and the assemblies in good faith, to promote socio-economic growth.

Mr John Alexander AckonInaugurating the Asante Professional Club (APC) in Kumasi, he invited everybody to find space to contribute to the progress of the region.

APC is a not-for-profit, non-partisan “think-and-do-tank” formed by Asantes with varied professional background to engage in development research and advocacy.

It seeks not only to utilize the skills and expertise of the members to support sustainable development but to also attract private sector investment to create wealth and jobs.

Mr. Ackon welcomed the initiative and asked that it did everything stick to its vision.

The Most Reverend Dr. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Primate and Metropolitan Anglican Archbishop of the Church of the Province of West Africa, asked them to combine innovation with the “can-do-it spirit” and entrepreneurship, to aid the transformation of the living conditions of the people.

He reminded the members to serve as role models to the youth and support their training to acquire skills that would make them employable.

Nana Effah-Appenteng, Bompatahene, who represented Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hailed the professionals for signaling the determination to lead the way in the fight against poverty and other indignities.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said all had a part to play to bring development and make things better.

He encouraged the people to overcome partisan politics and stand solidly behind initiatives, projects and programmes, that sought to improve the lives of the people.

Mr. Vincent Yaw Frimpong Manu, President of APC, said it had set a six-point strategic goals to be achieved within the next five years.

These include advocacy and support for the arts and cultural development, stimulate investment in the people and provision of coordinated effort for economic growth and entrepreneurship through forging of alliances and networking.

It would also mobilize funding from both the private and public sectors to support policy analysis, advocacy and development alongside the implementation of a multi-purpose communications and social marketing strategy.
