Black Star Captain, John Mensah says the passing of Anthony Annan’s mum has fueled the team’s desire to fight like wounded lions when they walk into the quarter finals at the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The captain who returns from suspension and a thigh strained says the players are poised to play tough in honour of the passing away of the midfielder’s mum.

The Stars camp was thrown into state of mourning when news about the death broke last Thursday.

Mensah said: “We will play like wounded lions for her memory. It is a very difficult time for him and we want to prove to him that we are in this together. We want to play and a win for her and give every support to Anthony”.

Mensah was the unlikely scorer for Ghana’s Group D opener against Botswana before he was sent off for a tackle whilst he was the last man.

He missed the second game against Mali because of the suspension but was rested against Guinea because of a thigh strain.

Mensah said his race against time has been successful and he would be ready for battle if selected against the Carthage Eagles.
