Nana Obrimpong Kanya II, Omanhene of Nchumuru Traditional Area, has advised Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, to engage the services of graduates of the School of Hygiene as zone leaders to improve the country’s sanitation.

He said the current situation where ?untrained locals? were made zone leaders accounted for the sanitation challenges facing the country, saying, ?the job must be given to the professionals?.
Nana Kanya gave the advice when he joined Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister, to commission a Junior High School block at Bejamse in the Krachi-Nchumuru District.
?We all know how our people fear and respect officials of Town Councils. Their presence in the communities helps a lot and brings about good personal and environmental hygiene, why do we leave them in the house and suffer from poor sanitation?? he asked.
Nana Kanya said locals, who were being employed by Zoomlion, were not being regarded in the communities due to incompetence and said they should be considered for different jobs or positions.
Ms Ntoso said sanitation was a shared responsibility and urged traditional authorities to help improve it.
She charged municipal and district assemblies in the region to engage relevant stakeholders to address sanitation challenges in their districts to avoid the outbreak of cholera and other sanitation related diseases.
Mr John Majisi, Member of Parliament for Krachi-Nchumuru, said poor sanitation was an act of indiscipline and called for concerted efforts to address it.
He asked young people in the area to be sanitation-conscious and ensure that their communities were clean.
