Agency vows to eliminate mother- to-child transmission of the virus

About 70,000 new babies are born with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Prof. John Idoko, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) said on Thursday.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Idoko said that HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria were prevalent among Nigerian pregnant women and called for the improvement of the State Action Committee on AIDs (SACA).

The NACA director urged the three levels of government to help strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related diseases.

Idoko vowed that the agency would work hard to completely eliminate mother-to-child transmission.
