The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) said, it was shocked at the UN report which cited Ghana as a haven for rebel activities (Command post) to destabilize the government of President Alhassan Dramani Quattara.
According to AFAG, the United Nations at this instance ought to have engaged in standard diplomatic practice in dealing with the matter by bringing to the attention of the government of Ghana the issue for an open discussion and subsequent action. ?There is no way the United Nations could solve this problem (even if it?s true) without the tacit support of the people and Government of Ghana.?
?It also has to said, that having subtly supported Gbagbo and his people in the face of international recognition of Quattara, our government must be as transparent as possible in dealing with this matter. We cannot be an “oasis” of peace in West Africa and at the same time be seen as a duplicitous country with mercenary tendencies!!?
AFAG however agrees with the Foreign Minister for deciding to raise the issue at the UN Security Council, and would support the government on any action to fight the rebels command post if indeed they are using our territory as a staging point.
?AFAG expects the United Nations to provide evidence of their allegation to help the people of Ghana to help maintain the peace and stability in Ivory Coast.? It is important to note that, this issue goes beyond partisan politics and as such, AFAG urges all political parties to support the government in any action necessary to flush out the rebels if any and to maintain the friendship between Ivory Coast and Ghana.?
